Time at Durham
Claire Best graduated in 1988 from the College of St Hild & St Bede with a B.A. Joint Hons in French & Spanish with subsidiary Portuguese. Claire spent most of her third year abroad in Montevideo, Uruguay teaching English at the Anglo-Uruguayan Cultural Institute and travelling around Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay. Upon her return to Durham she attended many of the University Film Society screenings which led to her quest to join the Entertainment Industry. Claire’s study of modern languages at Durham provided the stepping stone to her early career as an assistant to a producer, researching and interpreting during the first ever European film awards in Berlin. She continues to use them on a daily basis in her work and at home.
After working for 4 years in London and travelling all over the world on documentaries and drama-documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4 as a free-lance production manager, associate producer and producer, Claire moved to Los Angeles in 1992. She started Stateside in feature films as a script supervisor, moving up to become a producer and then joined New Line Cinema and Fine Line Features as a production executive from 1996-2001. In this position, Claire oversaw the production of a variety of well-known domestic and international film productions and had her own productions premiere at different film festivals including Sundance, Berlin and Toronto.
Since 2002, Claire has been an agent representing film and television behind the camera talent including writers, directors, producers, production designers, directors of photography, costume designers, editors, composers and visual & special effects department heads.
Claire founded Claire Best & Associates, in 2010. The agency represents clients from all over the world including many Academy, BAFTA, Emmy, Caesar, Lola and Individual Guild award winners and nominees. Claire is a full voting member of the British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) as well as the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Emmys).
Social and Family Life
Claire lives in the Hollywood Hills and is married to American Television Writer/Producer Jordan Hawley. They have two daughters.
In her spare time, Claire enjoys sailing, skiing, hiking, photography and spending time with her family and their two dogs. She supports several different initiatives and charities focusing on equal opportunities within the entertainment industry, children’s health and welfare, childhood cancer awareness, poverty and animals.
