Jon graduated from Durham (Van Mildert College) with a B.A. in Chinese, Korean and Management in 1997. He spent his second year abroad at The People’s University in Beijing. He enjoyed every minute of his four years at Durham getting involved in the arts, sports and as many social functions as time allowed. He played the lead in various plays and musicals, ran the Music Society and had a Monday night show on the college radio station. Sportswise, Jon played college tennis and was an active member of the Rally Driving Club. One highlight was doing his first skydive in the middle of winter after accepting a late night challenge from the climbing club.
Jon is currently based in San Francisco and is an entrepreneur and active angel investor in consumer lifestyle startups like Fitbit, Pandora, The League, Toymail, Laurel & Wolf and others. He started his career as a DJ then got into the Music Industry in Asia Pacific. He worked up the ranks at Bertelsmann and moved to a corporate development and M&A role in NYC. After that he spent time at AT&T Wireless helping launch the first era of mobile apps and messaging. After AT&T was bought, he moved out to LA to become a TV producer at Endemol working on hit shows like Deal or No Deal and selling and producing shows of his own on US Cable networks. Once Endemol was bought by Goldman Sachs, he was hired to run an advertising agency in San Francisco. Since then he has been building and investing in companies. His current venture is called Tastemates and is an interest based network to connect with people who share your taste in movies, music, TV, games and more.
Jon grew up in Surrey and went to school at Harrow. After university he lived in Asia, then NYC, LA and now lives with his American wife and two children in Marin County north of San Francisco. In his free time he likes cycling, tennis, kayaking and inventing new cocktails.
