Sarah (Griff) Fairbairn

Griff graduated in 1987 from St Mary’s College and was one of the last of the General Artists. While at Durham, she ran a debating society and spent her summers working in the US where she now lives. She met her husband Robert on the first evening and they both credit Durham with providing a circle of lifelong friends.

Professional career

After graduating Griff joined Euromoney Trade Finance magazine, before jumping ship to the Sun newspaper, where she ran Sun Money. After a year on the now- defunct Today newspaper she joined the Finance Pages of the London Evening Standard, where she was chief city correspondent and stock market reporter. Since having her children, she has done a small amount of freelance writing for The Telegraph and the Sunday Times. Last year, she helped set up GREAT.LY, the online curated marketplace.

Social and family life

Griff has been married to Rob for nearly 25 years and they have four children – Imogen, Jack, Luke and Esme. Since moving to New York City in 2009, Griff has joined the US board of the conservation charity TUSK and has been actively involved in her children’s school. She likes to travel as much as possible and loves tennis, running, cooking and reading when she has time. Her aim is to complete the NYC marathon.
