Smiti Kumar

Academic Life

Smiti graduated from the University of Durham with an M.Sc. in Management Studies in 1981. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC with a major in Marketing and a minor in Sociology. Smiti has been involved with the North American Foundation for the University of Durham since its inception and was a board member from 2010 through 2022, including two terms as President. She has organized five of her high school class reunions and two for her Durham University Business School classmates, including one in 2015 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the University of Durham’s Business School.

Professional Life

Smiti’s career includes roles in a variety of marketing disciplines at Deloitte, Merrill Lynch/U.S. Trust/Bank of America, The Coca-Cola Company and America Online. She also spent several years in the advertising agency business managing automotive, fast food and other retail and business-to-business accounts.

Social Life

Though Smiti was born in New Delhi, India, she moved to Washington, DC when she was an infant and lived there through her college years and beyond, so considers herself a native Washingtonian. After spending several years in Atlanta and New York City, she has returned to the Washington, DC area. She is an avid movie buff, theater-goer, TV-addict and animal lover who enjoys traveling.
