Smiti graduated from the University of Durham with an M.Sc. in Management Studies in 1981. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC with a major in Marketing and a minor in Sociology. Smiti has been involved with the North American Foundation for the University of Durham since its inception and has been a board member since 2010. She has organized four of her high school class reunions and two for her Durham University Business School classmates, including one in 2015 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the University of Durham’s Business School.
Smiti is Marketing Transformation Leader for the Office of the Deloitte USA Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to this she was Senior Vice President for the Global CMO Growth Council at the Association of National Advertisers (ANA). Before that, she worked at Merrill Lynch and U.S. Trust/Bank of America, The Coca-Cola Company and America Online in various marketing roles. She also spent several years in the advertising agency business managing automotive, fast food and other retail
Though Smiti was born in New Delhi, India, she moved to Washington, DC when she was an infant and lived there through her college years and beyond, so considers herself a native Washingtonian. She is an avid movie buff, theater-goer, TV-addict and animal lover who enjoys traveling.
